Description	This project is scoped to branch of fundamental research of methods of length measurements with a resolution close to atomic distances. The investigation of geometric dimensions of the matter with such an extremely high resolution is accomplished during atmospheric conditions, so that measured results are influenced by time variations of the refractive index of air. Therefore it is important to know the instantaneous value of the index with very high resolution during these measurements. Study of novel methods for direct determination of value of the refractive index is the main goal of the project. The proposal of the measuring methods will be based on construction of two independent laser systems. The first of them will determine the value of the refractive index with coarse resolution but the system works in the full-size range of possible values of the index. The other system will be intended to specify the fine value of the index with respect to knowledge of the coarse value measured by the (en) Tento projekt je zaměřen základní výzkum metod laserového měření délky s rozlišením blížícím se atomárním vzdálenostem. Zkoumání geometrických rozměrů hmoty s takto extrémním rozlišením se však běžně provádí v prostředí atmosféry, a proto klíčovým zdrojem nestabilit zjišťovaných údajů je časová nestálost hodnoty indexu lomu vzduchu. Je tedy nutné znát okamžitou hodnotu indexu lomu vzduchu s vysokým rozlišením. Cílem projektu je proto studium měřicích metod, které umožní stanovit index lomu přímým měřením. Návrh nových měřicích metod bude proto vycházet z použití dvou nezávislých laserových systémů. První systém bude určovat hodnotu indexu lomu s hrubým rozlišením, avšak v plném rozsahu možných hodnot. Druhý systém pak bude určen pro upřesnění hodnoty měřené systémem prvním. V obou případech bude kladen důraz na schopnost zkoumaných metod určovat index lomu bez nutnosti opakovaného vakuového čerpání měřicích kyvet, což je jeden z hlavních nedostatků dosud známých metod.
