Description
| - Biodiversity is one of the most remarkable features of life on earth; from the variety of molecular mechanisms that underlie living functions to the number of alleles in a population, from the morphological variety of organisms to the diversityof ecosystems on Earth. Human society is also dependent on the stability and functioning of the ecosystem. However, we change and threaten the functioning of ecosystems. The study of biodiversity and general biological factors, and therelationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, has recently become a priority scientifically and politically. The ability to predict the behaviour of organisms to a changing environment and how the environmentalso is shaped by these changes in biodiversity and the functions of organisms is a major task of biological sciences. - Cílem předloženého záměru je integrace výzkumu různých vzájemně se doplňujících pohledů na biodiverzitu: biodiverzity společenstev a ekosystémů, fylogeneze a evoluční biologie organismů, evoluce ekologických asociací a sociálních systémů a srovnávací a eorganismů. Konkrétní problémy jsou v jednotlivých tématech vybrány tak, aby pokrývaly studium diverzity na „globální“ úrovni (např. studium fylogeneze celých velkých skupin organismů, studium ekosystémů), i na úrovni jednotlivých modelových systémů umožňmezidruhových vztahů (např. parazitismus nebo mimeze), sociální struktury populací, historie areálů rozšíření a anagenetických trendů ve fosilním záznamu.

| - The research plan dealt with a broad range of topics from ecology to molecular biology. It significantly contributed to enhancement of research infrastructure and quality of research teams in biological departments of the University of South Bohemia. The results were published in many high-quality publication, including those published in top international journals. Funding was used effectively. (en)
(cs)
