Description	Reaction of avian predators (Parus major) to two larval stages (third and fifth) of the red firebug was observed and compared to those to adults. Birds showed higher willingness to predate on smaller prey (third instar) than the bigger one (fifth and adult instar) caused most probably by lesser amount of protective substances. The coloration of both larval instars provided significantly worse protection than those of adults.
