Description
| - This proposal is a continuation of project 524/03/H133 supported by the National Science Foundation (GA ČR). This project has considerably improved the quality of the education of PhD students in parasitology, which was reflected in the PhD student publication rate, a higher number of defended PhD theses and frequent international collaborations. The main objectives of the new project are: (i) to further develop mutual cooperation of two research teams from universities and a research institute of the Academy of Sciences in preparation of young researchers; (ii) to train PhD students in cutting-edge methods; and (iii) to support their travel, with an emphasis on research and training stays abroad. Topics of PhD theses are focused on: (1) Molecular and cellular interactions of vectors, pathogens and their hosts, studied by immunological and biochemical methods, and (2) Genetic and evolutionary aspects of parasitism inferred from bioinformatic and functional analyses of genetic information that provide insight into the evolution of parasitism and diversification of these organisms. Výzkumné cíle a jim odpovídající témata doktorských disertací jsou zúženy do dvou metodicky a koncepčně souvisejících tématických okruhů: (1) Molekulární a buněčné interakce vektor-patogen-hostitel s využitím imunologických a biochemických přístupů k přímému sledování interakcí parazita a hostitele, a (2) Genetické a evoluční aspekty parazitizmu, studované především analýzou genetické informace ve vztahu ke vzniku parazitických adaptací, evoluce parazitizmu a diverzifikací parazitických forem.
