Description
| - The subject of the Research Proposal of the Institute of Entomology in years 2005-2010 is research in general and applied entomology aimed to extend knowledge of insect organism and insect populations in following topics: regulation of gene expression; structural-function organization of chromosomes, telomeres, sex chromosomes; regulation of insect development and metabolism, growth factors, functions of neurohumoral system; molecular mechanisms of daily rhythmicity of behaviour and physiological functions; mechanisms of adaptations of insects to seasonal and long-term changes of climate; dynamics of insect populations, evolution and population genetics; the role of insects in food nets of ecosystems influenced by man; structure of insect guilds in natural ecosystems, evolution of ecological interactions; phylogeny of insects, comparative morphology and taxonomy. The institute will continue editing the European Journal of Entomology. (en)
Výsledky badatelského úsilí v oblastech genetiky, fyziologie a ekologie hmyzu přispějí k rozšíření sumy poznatků prakticky využitelných v biologii, medicíně, zemědělství, lesnictví, při posuzování globálních změn klimatu a v ochraně přírody.

| - Byly získány nové poznatky o biologii, ekologii a druhové diverzitě vybraných skupin hmyzu s důrazem na hormonální a genetickou regulaci vývoje hmyzu, adaptace hmyzu na podmínky prostředí, trofické vztahy a dynamiku hmyzích populací. Získané poznatky budou uplatněny jednak v dalším výzkumu obecných biologických zákonitostí, v ochraně ohrožených druhů hmyzu a v zemědělství. (cs)
- New results were obtained related to biology, ecology and biodiversity of selected insect groups with emphasis on hormonal and genetic regulation of insect development, adaptations to changing environment, trophic relationships and insect population dynamics. These findings will be used in further research of general biology, in protection of endangered insect species and in agriculture. (en)
