  • Kultura kukuřice Monumental MON 810 exprimující bakteriální endotoxin Cry 1Ab byla použita na přezkoumání jejího vlivu na životní prostředí. Bt kukuřice byla vyseta na pěti 0,5 ha parcelách střídavě s netransgenními rodičovskými kulturami. Na pokusné pole byl aplikovaný herbicid Guardian EC před sedbou a následně po vzklíčení rostlin kukuřice. V 2-3 týdenních intervalech byly odebírány vzorky rostlin kukuřice na otestování přítomnosti toxinu Cry 1Ab a hmyzu. Přítomnost toxinu v rostlinách kukuřice (listy a stonky) v průběhu celé sezóny chránila rostliny před výskytem zavíječe kukuřičného (Ostrinia nubilis), který se vyskytoval pouze na Non Bt kukuřici. Z necílených druhů hmyzu vyskytujících se na pokusných rostlinách převládaly mšice, strapky a bzdochy. Jejich výskyt nezávisel na přítomnosti toxinu v rostlinách. Z výsledků vyplývá, že toxin Cry 1Ab přítomný v kukuřici se projevil letálně na zavíječe kukuřičného a je neškodný pro ostatní necílené druhy hmyzu přítomné na kukuřici. (cs)
  • The maize cultivar Monumental MON810 was used to examine the environmental impact of the plant-expressed Bacillus thuringiensis toxin Cry 1Ab. The Bt-maize was planted on five plots and alternated with five similar plots seeded with the non-transgenic parental cultivar. The whole field was treated with Guardian EC herbicide before sowing and again after maize germination. Samples od plants were analyzed for Cry 1Ab expression and the presence of insects in 2 or 3-week intervals. The toxin was present in leaves and stems throughout the season and efficiently prevented maize attack by the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubiallis, which occurred only on the non-Bt maize. Aphids, thrips and Orius bugs dominated among the plant-dwelling non-targer insects. Their occurrence was not affected by toxin expression. The results indicate that the presence of Cry 1Ab in maize is lethal for O. nubiallis, but innocuous for the non-lepidopteran insects that are associated with maize.
