| Description
| - Lyme disease is well known for affecting the myocardium in the form of carditis. Spirochetes are one group of bacteria with a predilection for cardiac infection. We presented here a case of third-degree AV block in a patient with Lyme disease in anamnesis, with negative results from bacterial cultivation but confirmation by molecular techniques of the presence of B. bissettii DNA in the valve tissue. Our case provides evidence that DNA from the causative agent of Lyme disease may persist in the cardiac valves of patients some time after the infection is cured by a course of antibiotics. Moreover, the presence of B. bissettii as the single Borrelia strain in patients with symptomatic borreliosis or chronic borrelial infections strongly supports the fact that B. bissettii may indeed be a causative agent of Lyme disease.

- Lymská borelióza je známa svým účinkem na myokard ve formě endokarditidy. Spirochéty jsou jednou ze skupin bakterií, které preferují srdeční infekce. Zde prezentujeme případ srdeční blokády III. stupně u pacienta s diagnózou Lymské boreliózy v anamnéze, kdy výsledky kultivace spirochét byly negativní, ale použitím molekulární metody byla potvrzena přítomnost DNK B. bissettii v srdeční chlopni. Náš případ poskytuje důkaz toho, že DNK původce Lymské boreliózy setrvává v srdeční tkáni pacientů nějaký čas po léčbě antibiotiky. Kromě toho přítomnost DNK B. bissettii jako samostatného druhu u pacientů se symptomatickou boreliózou nebo chronickou boreliovou infekcí významně podporuje ten fakt, že B. bissettii by skutečně mohla být původcem Lymské boreliózy u člověka.
