Description
  • Parasite communities of introduced fish Neogobius kessleri Günther (Gobiidae) were studied in five localities in the Slovak section of the Danube River during 2002 – 2005. Thirty three metazoan parasite species were identified. Parasite community consisted mainly of the three dominant parasites: glochidia of Anodonta anatina, acanthocephalan Pomphorhynchus laevis and nematode Raphidascaris acus. High susceptibility to local parasites was observed. Most of the parasite species were generalists. Parasite communities differed between habitats with more diverse parasite community in backwaters. The importance of gobies as suitable hosts for local non-native parasite species (Anguillicoloides crassus, Anodonta woodina, Hydrozetes lacustris) is discussed in a context of increasing risk of their dispersion.
