The goal of the proposed project is to study excited states of carbonyl carotenoids in both organic solvents and bound to various proteins. The project will focus on disclosing details of excited-state properties of carotenoids with a conjugated carbonyl group . These carotenoids exhibit strong dependence of their excited state dynamics on polarity of environment that is assigned to a presence of a charge-transfer state in their excited state manifold. Yet, details about this charge transfer state (e.g. its relation to the lowest excited state S1, its role in energy transfer in photosynthetic light-harvesting) remains undisclosed. The project aims on tight collaboration of two partners who were both involved in disclosing the basic spectroscopic properties of carbonyl carotenoids. Both partners utilize advanced spectroscopic techniques of time-resolved spectroscopy and have extensive experience in the research field of carotenoid excited states. The proposed project aims on joining efforts in utilizi (en)
Získat poznatky o dynamice excitovaných stavů karbonylových karotenoidů a využít tyto poznatky k odhalení světlosběrných strategií fotosyntetických organismů využívajících karbonylové karotenoidy.
Excited states of various carbonyl carotenoids were successfully studied within this project. The obtained results were further applied for understanding the roles of carbonyl carotenoids in photosynthetic antennae and related systems. Roles of carotenoids in non-photochemical quenching and excited states of polyenes were also explored. Results of the project were published as nine papers. (en)
V průběhu řešení projektu byly úspěšně studovány excitované stavy karbonylových karotenoidů a získané znalosti byly následně aplikovány na odhalení funkce těchto karotenoidů ve fotosyntetických anténách a příbuzných systémech. Byly rovněž studována role karotenoidů v nefotochemickém zhášení a excitované stavy polyenů. Dosavadní výsledky projektu byly zveřejněny v devíti impaktovaných publikacích. (cs)
