| Description
| - New materials exhibiting ferroelectric (FE) and antiferroelectric (AF) liquid crystalline phases have potential applications in imaging technologies. The principal goals of the project are: - Search for new liquid crystalline materials with chiral molecules and non-chiral banana-shaped molecules with the aim to get phases with FE or AF dipolar order. - Study of dielectric, electrooptical and optical properties of FE, AF and hexatic phases in the new materials and to explain the cause of the phase transitions between the observed phases. - Study of mixtures of materials exhibiting the AF and FE phases, finding and understanding the connection of the phase occurrence and the material composition and looking for the possibility of the induction of aliquid crystalline phase by doping. - Defects in FE and AF phases of confined samples and of free standing films and their relation to characteristic observed textures. - Frustrated chiral nematic liquid crystals - questions of cholesteric finger (en)
- Nové materiály s feroelektrickými (FE) a antiferoelektrickými (AF) fázemi nalézají potenciální využití v zobrazovacích technologiích. Hlavní cíle navrhovaného projektu lze shrnout následovně: - hledání nových kapalně krystalických materiálů s chirálními molekulami a nechirálními ohnutými molekulami (ve tvaru %22banánu%22) s cílem získání fází s FE či AF dipolárním uspořádáním. - Studium dielektrických elektrooptických a optických vlastností FE, AF a hexatických fází v nových materiálech s cílem vysvětlit příčinu fázových transformací mezi pozorovanými fázemi. - Studium směsí materiálů, vykazujících FE a AF fáze, nalezení a pochopení vztahu mezi výskytem fází a složením materiálu. Hledání možností indukce kapalně krystalické fáze dopováním. - Poruchy ve FE a AF fází konečných vzorků a volně zavěšených filmů a jejich vztah k charakteristickým pozorovaným texturám. - Frustrované chirální nematické kapalné krystaly - otázky pohybu cholesterických poruch a vznik spirálových defektů.
