Description
| - The aim of this work was to determine the level of resistance of landraces and prospective newly bred Czech pear cultivars against Erwinia amylovora in comparison with the commercially grown pear cultivars in the climatic conditions of the Czech Republic. Four landraces ´Libovicka maslovka´, ´Krvavka moravska´, ´Rihova bezjaderka´, ´Solanka´, two Czech newly bred cultivars ´Bohemica´, ´Dicolor´ and four cultivars from the world pear collection ´Beurre Bosc´, ´Conference´, ´Alexander Lucas´ and ´Williams´ were included in the experiment. Three-year-old trees on pear seedling rootstock were used for tests. The experiment was established in a screen-house covered with insect proof net. The artificial inoculation of one year old shoots was carried out in the phenological phase of intensive extension growth in suitable climatic conditions (temperature > 15°C, relative humidity > 75%) by removal of the apical part of the shoot tip with scissors dipped in a suspension containing 10 power of 6 cfu/ml E. amylovora. Subsequently, a 3 µl drop of inoculum at the same concentration was applied to the cut tissue with a pipette. Calculated intensity of infection was consequently converted to a 6-point evaluation scale: highly resistant 0.0 - 7.0%, resistant 7.1 - 13.0%, medium resistant 13.1 – 26.0%, medium susceptible 26.1 - 60.0%, susceptible 60.1 – 80.0% and highly susceptible 80.1 – 100.0%. Evaluation of obtained results proved a higher level of resistance only in the case of cultivar ´Bohemica´ (8.9%), which was in our conditions higher than the resistance of ´Alexander Lucas´ (17.2%). Cultivars ´Solanka´ (26.6%), ´Conference´ (39.8%), ´Beurre Bosc´ (41.4%) and ´Krvavka moravska´ (52.2%) were evaluated as a medium susceptible. Cultivars ´Williams´ (62.3 %), ´Rihova bezjaderka´ (83.3%), ´Libovicka maslovka´ (100%) and ´Dicolor´ (100%) were evaluated as susceptible and highly susceptible. The obtained results are preliminary and the tests will continue in the future
