Description
| - Study and explanation of causes and mechanisms that are behind enormous diversity of life on Earth are the main challenge for all students of biology and related fields of research. Organisms vary in morphology, physiology and strategiesof survival and reproduction, i.e. in their life-history traits. Thus, an effort to clarify the basic determinants of variation in life-history traits becomes the main feature of current research in ecology and evolutionary biology, and resultsresults in rapid increase of our knowledge of diverse biological phenomena. The study of life-histories provides a platform where previously isolated fields of research fruitfully meet each other. On the one hand, study of survival andreproduction of various model organisms may lead to understanding of the mechanisms of reproductive isolation and speciation. (en)
V ornitologickém výzkumu navážeme na prestižní výsledky pracovníků Ornitologické laboratoře PřF UP doposud financované MŠMT ČR. Zaměříme se na studium evoluce reprodukčníizolace a hnízdního parazitismu, významu predace v evoluci reprodukčních strategií, alokace zdrojů, mateřských efektů, pohlavního výběru a příjmu vápníku. Dále budeme studovat ekologické interakce determinující populační změnu v přírodníchpopulacích savců, mechanismy zajišťující vitalitu populací ohrožených druhů hmyzu, koevoluční vztahy hostitel-parazit u plazů a obojživelníků a evoluci mimikry u modelových skupin hmyzu. Publikování výsledků a jejich využití ve výuce je samozřejmostí.

| - Jde o malý projekt katedry zoologie Přírodovědecké fakulty Palackého univerzity. Tomu odpovídá i relativně nízké financování. Jde však o vysoce hodnotný výzkum, jehož společným jmenovatelem jsou životní strategie živočichů na modelech brouků, hrabošů a ptáků. Výsledky byly publikovány ve velmi hodnotných časopisech. (cs)
- Aims 1) to build Laboratory of Molecular Phylogenetics 2) to strengthen collaborations of the Lab. of Ornithology 3) to support teams in other areas of zoology and 4) to enhance research equipment, involving students into research. The results represent excellent papers in impacted journals. Team belongs to the top of zoological research in the Czech Republic, it is also highly recognised abroad. (en)
