Description
  • This study is focused on a FE simulation of an advanced dental composite of polymer resin and silica particles with an experimentally observed difference between tensional and compressive stiffness in the one-dimensional test. Relationship between the difference of stiffness values and the phenomenon of the shrinkage during the curing process is discussed. Technique used to simulate the experiment is based on a thermal analogy of the shrinkage process, which the dental resin undergoes during polymerization. The nature of developed shrinkage stress and strain field is studied, and the influence of the yielding status in certain material points on the local and overall mechanical performance is simulated. Particle distribution in the material is simulated by three models, inspired by crystallographic arrays, and the influence of particle volume fraction, distribution and mutual distance is taken into account.
