Description
  • Ankylosing enthesopathy (ANKENT) is a naturally occurring arthropathy in mice with some features similar to those of the spodyloarthropathies in humans. One of relative risk factor for ANKENT and human ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is gender. Therefore, the role of sexual dimorphism and testosterone in the development of disease was studied. The incidence of ANKENT was observed in non-castrated, castrated and testosterone-substituted castrated male mice, and in control and testosterone-treated female mice. ANKENT occurred only in males and castrated males injected with testosterone. Castrated males, control females and testosterone-injected females did not develop ANKENT. Testosterone can replace what castration eliminates, but is itself not sufficient to induce joint disease.

ANKENT se vyskytuje pouze u samců, AS převážně u mužů (75% případů). Kastrovaní samci, kontrolní samice a samice injikované testosteronem ANKENT neměli. (cs)
