| - During the coevolution between brood parasitic birds and the hosts, each has evolved a variety of mechanisms. Nestling competition for food among nestmates was probably such efficient selective pressure that eviction behaviour, i.e. pushing out of the eggs or nestlings, to have evolved in some obligate brood parasites. We studied the eviction behaviour of common cuckoo Cuculus canorus chicks by video recording at nests of great reed warblers Acrocephalus arundinaceus and reed warblers Acrocephalus scirpaceus. There were no differences between cuckoos reared by either host in hatching mass and age at first eviction. However, mass at eviction had a significant effect on the timing of first eviction event. No significant difference in time required to evict was found between serial intranest eviction events for cuckoos raised by either host.

- Během koevoluce mezi hostitelem a parasitem se obejvilo několik mechanismů. Kompetice mláďat o potravu byla pravděpodobně selekční silou vedoucí k evoluci vyhazovacího chování mláďat kukaček. Studovali jsme toto chování u dvou hostitelů, rákosníka velkého a rákosníka obecného pomocí videozáznamu. Nebyly zjištěny rozdíly mezi hmotností právě se vylíhlých kukaček a hmotností v okamžiku první události vyhození ve hnízdech obou hostitelů. Prokázalo se, že pouze %22hmotnost v okamžiku vyhození%22 měla vliv na načasování vyhazovacího chování. Kukačky ve hnízdech rákosníků velkých vyhazovaly signifikantně rychleji než mláďata kukaček vychovávaná ve hnízdech rákosníků obecných. Neprokázali jsme vliv teploty uvnitř a vně hnízda na průběh vyhazovacího chování. Zaznamenali jsme konsistenci ve vyhazovacím chování ve vztahu k přítomnosti či absenci hostitele na hnízdě, protože jednotlivé individuum odstraňovalo vejce (mláďata) hostitelů pouze když hostitel byl přítomen či nepřítomen na hnízdě.
