  • Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among men. Currently, prostate cancer is screened using serum prostatic specific antigen (PSA) value and digital rectal examination. Unfortunately, PSA is not a cancer specific marker and has a low sensitivity and specificity. Gene expression profiling of prostate cancers has lead to the discovery of many novel genes associated with cancers. Alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase (AMACR) is one such gene which is highly expressed in prostate carcinoma cells compared with normal prostate epithelial cells. AMACR is a peroxisomal and mitochondrial enzyme involved in the b-oxidation of branched fatty acids. It was recently reported that AMACR has very high sensitivity and specificity to prostate adenocarcinoma. Therefore it is very important to find new approaches in AMACR detection.

  • Rakovina prostaty je jeden z nejčastějších forem rakoviny u mužů. V současné době, rakovina prostaty je promítán s použitím séra prostaty specifického antigenu (PSA), hodnota a digitální rektální vyšetření. Bohužel, PSA není specifickým markerem rakoviny a má nízkou citlivost a specifičnost. Profilování genové exprese z rakoviny prostaty má vést k objevu mnoha nových genů spojených s rakovinou. Alfa-methylacyl-CoA racemase (AMACR) je jeden takový gen, který je vysoce vyjádřený v buňkách karcinomu prostaty ve srovnání s normální buňky prostaty epitelu. AMACR je peroxizomálních a mitochondriální enzym podílející se na b-oxidace mastných kyselin s rozvětveným. Nedávno bylo hlášeno, že AMACR má velmi vysokou citlivostí a specificitou prostaty adenokarcinomu. Proto je velmi důležité najít nové přístupy v odhalování AMACR. (en)
