Description	Phytoplasmas have been found to be associated with two diseases in Ribes sp. - the severe Russian (R) form of the Blackcurrant reversion disease (BCRD) in black currants and the Full blossom disease (FBD) in red and white currants. Flower malformations are the most typical symptoms of BCRD and FBD in both diseases. Apple proliferation phytoplasma and Aster yellows phytoplasma were identified in currants with symptoms of BCRF and FBD by electron microscopy, PCR amplification of 16S rDNA, RFLP and sequencing, together with the Blackcurrant reversion virus. Experimental evidence, whether phytoplasma infection alone may induce disease symptoms in currants is not reported.
