Description	The squares of around 0.2 nm in height of the layered materials Bi 1.6 Sb 0.4 Se 3 , Bi 1.9 Sb O.1 Se 3 and Bi 2 SE 3 were raised by means of contact atomic force microscopy in air.The raising of the squares is also possible in a nitrogen atmosphere.When the surface is oxidized the AFM cantilever pulls the oxide off producing holes.
