  • Biotoxiny jsou toxické substance produkované žijícími organismy, které způsobují lidské, zvířecí či rostlinné nemoce. Činidlo může být letální nebo zneschopňující. Nové vystupující ohrožující činidla jsou biotoxiny produkované zvířaty, rostlinami, houbami a bekteriemi. Mnoho typů organismů produkuje látky, které jsou toxické vůči lidem. Příklady biotoxinů jsou botulinum toxin, tetanus toxin a ricin. Některé bioaktivnímolekuly produkované farmaceutickým průmyslem mohou být dokonce více toxické než klasické bojové chemické látky. Taková nová činidla jako biotoxiny či bioregulátory jsou často nazývána jako mid-spectrum činidla.Hrozba lidstvu z činidel vyvinutých moderní chemickou syntézou a genetickým inženýrstvím musí být rovněž zvažována neboť taková činidla mohou býtn více toxická či více efektivní při způsobení smrti či zeschopnění než klasické chemické bojové látky.
