Description	Trypanosoma brucei používá mikrosomální elongázy pro de novo syntézu většiny mastných kyselin. Navíc tento parazit využívá esenciální mitochondriální syntázu typu II pro produkci oktanoátu a dlouhých mastných kyselin, jako např. palmitátu. Ukázali jsme, že mitochondriální syntáza produkuje mastné kyseliny potřebné pro udržování místních hladin fosfolipidů, které jsou naopak potřebné pro zachování aktivity respiračních komplexů a udržení morfologie a funkce mitochondrií. (cs) Trypanosoma brucei use microsomal elongases for de novo synthesis of most of its fatty acids. In addition, the parasite utilizes an essential mitochondrial type II synthase for production of octanoate as well as longer fatty acids such as palmitate. We have shown that the mitochondrial synthase produces fatty acids needed for maintaining local phospholipid levels that are required for activity of respiratory complexes and preservation of mitochondrial morphology and function.
