Description
  • The optimal topology design problem is formulated as the maximization of the truss stiffness while keeping a required mass limit. The truss optimization problem is to find bar volumes (thus their cross-sectional areas) to achieve minimum compliance (the external force working) with the total truss volume constraint. In the paper we present the displacement-based reformulation of the truss topology design, for numerical solving we use the semidefinte optimization methods, namely the primary-dual method PBM (penalty-barrier multiplier). As an example we consider 3D trusses with one plane of symmetry and the rigid-body motion constraints. All calculations are performed using an in-house developed code programmed in Matlab. Some technical issues related to bar filtration and treating the singular stiffness matrix in the optimization run are discussed.
