Description	The paper deals with the problem of non-parametric modeling of 2-dimensional surfaces from observed data. Two approaches allowing significant reduction of number of needed functional units are presented, namely the projection pursuit and the Gordon surface construction. We also analyze consequences of sparse or missing data to precision of model and to uncertainty of prediction.
