Description
  • Large and long-life engineering structures suffer by gradual deterioration, and their safety decreases. The decision about repair or replacement must be based on a good knowledge of technical condition, obtained from inspections. Often it is impossible to characterise this condition by a simply measurable quantity. It is influenced by many factors, and some of them can be described only verbally. The result of evaluation thus depends also on the subjective opinion of the inspector. The situation can be improved by using computerised methods for multicriterial evaluation. They are based on assigning weights to the individual criteria and obtaining the resultant rating as their sum or with the support of fuzzy-logic tools. The paper informs about works done in this area at the University of Pardubice. The principle of two methods is explained and shown on examples of bridge condition evaluation.
