They are responsible for nosocomial and systemic infections. Their importance lies in the potencial of enzymatic ways of biodegradation and geochemical cycles too. The genus Pseudomonas sensu stricto a poddruhů. comprises more than hundered validly described species and subspecies, at the present. Classification of environmental isolates is often complicated due to the heterogeneity and genetic variability of the species. The evolving taxonomy of the genus is in great progress now. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry is an analytical technic, which identifies specific markers of the bacterial proteome.
