Description	Basic information about soil conditions at current localities of S. citellus in the Czech Republic. The species seems to be quite adaptable to soil conditions at the site, being able to inhabit a wide range of soil types - light as well as heavy soils, shallow as well as deep soils, regardless of the presence of soil skeleton and potential soil compaction. It only avoids semi-hydromorphic and hydromorphic soils. The current pattern of S. citellus distribution in the Czech Republic is thus probably not directly determined by soil conditions. The results of this study can be used e.g. for selection of sites suitable for S. citellus reintroduction as a part of implementation of the species action plan - such sites should be situated on rather deep soils, not affected by water. At the same time, it would be highly beneficial to carry out similar studies in other parts of S. citellus distribution range and to compare the obtained data.
