Pilsen theatrical production has been viewed from both quantitative and qualitative aspects; however, a complex monograph on staging English and American dramatists there is still missing. The objective of this project is thus a systematic analysis of the interpretations of English and American plays performed on Pilsen theatre stages in the context of 20th-century events. Based on Jauss and Iser's reception theory, performance - audience interaction will be examined. Research will further focus on either confirmation or negation of the existence of a possible system of equivalencies between particular stage performances and significant 20th-century events and developments. Moreover, by close and comparative study of archival sources, special attributes of performances will be revealed. The project concludes with a monograph mapping the reception of English and American playwrights in Pilsen theatres in the framework of 20th-century events and will serve as a considerable source of information on English and American performances in the time and area of research in question.
