Description
| - The project orients on studies of the influence of disorder and nanostructuring on properties at the localization threshold in actinides. Selected systems on the basis of U and Pu will be prepared by splat cooling and sputtering and studied by means of magnetic methods, photoelectron spectroscopy, transport methods and XMCD with the aim to specify the behaviour of the 5f electronic states in various conditions, mainly with respect to magnetic properties and general features of electronic structure. Attention will be paid to the development of magnetic properties on the conditions of reduced dimensionality. Ab-initio electronic structure calculations will specify interesting effects/regimes, which will be subsequently examined experimentally. A specialized equipment for sputtering from microtargets (3 targets) currently constructed in cooperation with ITU will be deployed, several techniques (as photoelectron spectroscopy) will be used directly at ITU. The novelty of the project is the interconnection of effects relevant for applications (magnetic recording) with exotic features of actinides (large orbital moments in itinerant systems, dominance of energy scale of electron-electron correlations). - Projekt se orientuje na studium vlivu neuspořádanosti a nanostrukturování na vlastnosti v blízkosti přechodu k lokalizovanému chování v aktinoidech. Vybrané systémy na bázi U a Pu budou připravovány metodou splat cooling a naprašováním a studovány magnetickými metodami, fotoelektronovou spektroskopií, transportními metodami a XMCD s cílem zjistit chování 5f stavů v různých podmínkách především s ohledem na magnetické vlastnosti a obecně na charakter elektronové struktury. Zvláštní pozornost bude věnována vývoji magnetických vlastností v podmínkách snížené dimenzionality. Podstatnou částí projektu budou ab-initio výpočty elektronové struktury a magnetických vlastností, které budou specifikovat zajímavé jevy/režimy, které budou následně studovány experimentálně. V první fázi projektu bude aplikováno nyní konstruované (v kooperaci s ITU Karlsruhe) speciální zařízení pro naprašování z mikrotargetů (3 targety), řada technik (jako fotoelektronová spektroskopie) bude využívána přímo v ITU. Originální stránkou projektu bude propojení jevů relevantních pro aplikace (magnetický záznam) s neobvyklými rysy aktinoidů jako velké orbitální momenty v itinerantních systémech a dominance silně korelované fyziky.

| - The project was solved in accordance with the proposal.. The researchers achieved excellent results in form of 32 papers most of them in prestigious journals with high impact factors. They developed microscopic description of solids with with strong correlated 5f electron states. (en)
