Description
  • This paper describes different means of storm damage risk assessment by usage of multidimensional statistic methods with emphasis to topographic exposure further processed to the form of so called MAXTOPEX factor. At first they are presented methods of mechanical, mechanical-empirical and empirical models commonly used worlwide and in the Czech Republic. Furthermore are described processes of storm damage assessment in the area of Šumava National Park after Kyrill hurricane in January 2007 by usage of multidimensional statistical methods of discriminant analysis and logistic regression. The emphasis in analysis is given to the topographic exposure of forest stands towards wind, further processed as maximal topographic exposure called MAXTOPEX. The results of analysis trained in the area of Šumava are verified in the case of storm damage caused by windstorm in June 2010 on the Training Forest Enterprise of Mendel University in Brno. Results shows that generated model allows to predict the impacts of strong wind in different places across Czech Republic.
