Description
| - Replacement of solid fossil fuels by biomass (mainly cereals straw) brings specific complications that are caused, apart from other things, different and diverse composition of ash. Biomass ash melting characteristic temperatures are in many cases significantly lower than for coal. Article presents and describes the existing methodological approaches to the determination of ash melting characteristic temperatures and discusses their suitability for biomass. During experiments was used method by CEN/TS 15370-1, by ISO 540 and method developed in Institute for research and utilization of fuel. Further, article presents results of the determination of ash melting characteristic temperatures for identical samples using described standardized methods in different laboratories. The comparing of results shows a significant dispersion of results. Results (characteristic temperatures) differ in dependence on methods, used atmosphere, biomass type and in dependence on compared characteristic temperature.
