Description
| - Subsurface pollution by Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) has emerged as a widespread problem in industrialized countries. Soil VOCs are particularly difficult to describe because they occur in several phases (vapour, liquid and solid), within heterogonous media. Improved understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes controlling the movement of contaminants in the vadose zone has allowed generation of more accurate mathematical models for prediction of soil contamination. The purpose of this investigation was to demonstrate and evaluate the use of soil gas survey as a standard part of comprehensive site characterization plans. A soil gas analysis should be applied on base on successful interpretation of the achieved results. When the methodology is sensitive and reliable, the data correspond proportionally to contaminant concentrations in soil. Unfortunately the quantitative relationships between soil gas data and subsurface contamination are difficult to be interpreted due to the h
