Description	The present development in the area of rotor systems supported by active magnetic bearings (AMB) is concentrating on mechanical design of %22smart machines%22, in which are integrated active control, diagnostics and regulation for ensuring the optimal operating conditions. For the purpose of efficient diagnostics of fault conditions the influence of transverse fatigue crack on dynamical behaviour of rotor system supported by AMB must be clarified. In this work the approaches to incorporation of transverse fatigue crack into computational model of rotor system are summarized. Through computer simulations the influence of open crack on the response and stability of rotor system supported by AMB is shown.
