"The project comprises three research activities: preparation of materials and structures, precise measurements of their characteristics and theoretical interpretation of the observed phenomena. The preparation will involve the development of the growth from the melt, water and high temperature solutions, and of molecular beam epitaxy, laser ablation, plasma deposition and other techniques. Diffraction and diagnostic methods, local and macroscopic measurements of the linear and non-linear response to various external fields (both static and dynamic) will be used for the characterization. Theoretical interpretation will be based on microphysical calculations of the electronic properties of materials as well as on phenomenological theories appropriate for the description of the mesoscopic and macroscopic phenomena. Understanding the observed properties will be an important guide in the search for new materials and structures with properties tailored to practical usage."@en . . .
