"The aim is to improve our understanding of physiological and pathophysiological processes on molecular, cellular, organ and whole-body levels to increase our knowledge of theoretical basis of human medicine. Molecular and cellular physiology will focus on the relationship between structure and function of key regulatory molecules, metabolism, bioenergetics, membrane transport, rapid signal transduction and their genetic determination. At the level of organ and system physiology the Institute will investigate developmental aspects and causes of obesity, atherosclerosis and hypertension. Further attention will be paid to the function of cardiovascular system, to mechanisms and consequences of early brain damage and to integrative function of neural system. The obtained results will contribute to the elucidation of pathogenesis of important human metabolic, cardiovascular and neural diseases in order to improve their diagnostics and to search for new therapeutic and prevention approaches."@en .
