"A rapid assessment of internal contamination is essential for sorting people exposed to ionizing radiation following malevolent dispersal of radionuclides. Field methods are developed for this purpose. Factors for conversion of the field instrument response into the estimate of whole-body activity should be calculated in advance in order to estimate the committed effective dose consequently. Appropriate calibration factors are published in international recommendations for routinely used instruments employing scintillation and GM probes. Such calibration factors were also determined for dose rate meters used by the Mobile emergency unit of the National Radiation Protection Institute in Prague. The response of the instruments was combined with TIARA project charts to enable assessment of the potential committed effective dose on the basis of dose rate measurements."@en . . .
