"Mobile phones belong to objects usable for retrospective reconstruction of doses of persons irradiated in consequence of serious radiation accidents or terroristic malevolent acts with radioactive materials. Advantage of mobile phones is that they are often worn close to the body and they are used by majority of population. Principle of the dosimetry application is that mobile phones similarly as other portable electronic devices contain electronic components, which can include ceramic materials exhibiting radiation induced luminescence. Example of such material is Al2O3, of which layer is often used in chip resistors. This work summarizes results of a pilot study aimed at research of dosimetry potential of Al2O3 measured by means of thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL). Trial dose reconstruction performed with two mobile phones is presented. It is shown that the material exhibits favourable dosimetry properties and the method is sufficiently accurate and operative for purposes of personal accident dosimetry."@en .
