"The work is devoted to the description and study of the effect of hydration of sericin contained in topically applied cosmetic emulsions. Sericin was added to the emulsion base (vehicle) in concentrations of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 % (w/w). Its effect was investigated in vivo to the skin of volar forearms in a group of 20 healthy volunteers by instrumental methods. Hydration effect was observed by corneometry and barrier properties (TEWL) by tewametr at regular time intervals. The study showed a low moisturizing effect of sericin at all concentrations contained in the prepared emulsions. Monitoring of the transepidermal water loss after application of studied cosmetic emulsions showed improved barrier properties of skin. In summary, the products containing sericin demonstrated barrier properties and have, therefore, ability to regulate the moisture content in the skin, even if not significantly affecting the skin hydration." .
