"Simultaneously with development of synthetic polymer materials, frowth of their application potential in medicine, pharmacy and biotechnology is obvious. In comkparison with natural materials, the synthetic ones provide several advanteges such as better homogeneity of batches or wider possibilities for technological lprocessing and modifications. However, the synthetic polymers possess also a range of properties that can be undesirable for human body. This is a limiting factor for the use of polymers in medicine, even in basic, simple applications of polymers in products entering into contact with the body for a short period of time. In advanced applications for example in tissue engineering, the situation is even more complicated, as additional parameters such as biodegradability, and the ability to interact with the polymer cells start to apply. In this paper, a brief explanation of the basic parameters affecting the usability of polymeric materials and products in medicine is provided and the crucial tests for determination of these parameters are presented.
