"This study deals with the polymer composite filled by inorganic filler, namely clay. Polymer matrixes were Surlyn(R) 9721, Surlyn(R) 9320W and Surlyn(R) 9910. Surlyn(R) is a copolymer of polyethylene and methacrylic acid (MMA), which acid groups are partially neutralized by metal ions. The used Surlyns(R) varied in MMA co-monomer concentration. The reason of these ionomers usage consists in better compatibility with clay due to their higher polarity than non-polar polyolefin, mainly polyethylene. Tested polymer composites (nanocomposites in some cases) contained various types of montmorillonite, Cloisite(R) Na+ and Cloisite(R) 20A and 25A. Compounds of Surlyn(R) and clay were prepared in Brabender twin screw extruder.
