Active biomass was obtained after one-week cultivation of activated waste water treatment sludge with phenol as a primary substrate. Sorption of TCE by bacterial suspension, biodegradation rates of TCE in relation to microorganism concentration and lifetime of enzymes responsible for TCE degradation were studied. The starting dosage of TCE was approx. 1 mg/l. Aerobic conditions were maintained by hydrogen dioxide. It was found that lifetime of oxygenases responsible for the TCE biodegradation was cca 1 day.
