"Carousel 2012 is an innovated analytical laboratory apparatus using gas chromatography to measure the permeation of liquid and gas chemical compounds through foil, filter or other experimental laminated flat materials (e.g. nanomaterials).It also enablesto measure desorption from the contaminated material and evaporation from the surface. The apparatus Carousel 2012 allows measure more types of samples simultaneously, with use of the same or different permeants. Another advantage of the system is the possibility of long-term measurement under static and/or dynamic conditions without need of permanent supervision. The dependence of concentration change on time is the result of measurement from which characteristic quantities of permeation process are derived - diffusion constant, breakthrough time and solubility of permeant in the material. The apparatus was developed for testing material resistance against industrial pollutants and chemical warfare agents. Nowadays, CWA simulants (1,6-dichlorohexane, methyl salicylate and pentyl acetate) are tested on this apparatus.
