Anaerobic fungi Neocallimastigomycota are colonizing the gastrointestinal tract of ruminant and non-ruminant herbivores, but their presence in gorilla gut have not been researched yet. Fungi contain highly active enzymes which participate in digestion of complex carbohydrates such as cellulose. The relationship between fungi and host animal is symbiotic. To detect fungi within faecal samples of herbivorous gorillas methods of molecular biology are used. Methods are needed to obtain information about the ITS1 sections, which are non-coding regions of the nuclear DNA coding ribosome. With different sequences of DNA of ITS1 sections fungi could be classified in genera of the system. These methods include DNA isolation, PCR, sequencing and phylogenetic analysis."@en . . "1"^^ . .
