"During the 4 day intensive workshop students have learnt how to code in the program environment of Processing. We started from the basis of coding of primitive geometry and gradually we moved on to the complexity of advanced object-oriented programming. We ended up with two autonomous applications based on simulation and manipulatoin of behavioral strategies of swarming established by computer graphics expert Craig Reynolds. The first application \u201Einteractive network\u201C visualize the positions of individual swarm agents in virtual space according to their cohesion, separation and alignment. We experimented with the principles of physics and additional libraries for Processing. By learning how and adding Toxiclibs, OBJExport, PeasyCam, ControlP5 libraries as well as the built-in library Minim, we ended up with the first autonomous application. The second application \u201Eformation and virtuosity\u201C will visualize the diversity of emerging porosity. The strategy of cohesion, separation and alignment of swarms will be controlled and disrupted by additional attractors. Attractor as a vector and as an object. By changing the intensities of interest and manipulation of swarm strategies we will achieve a new visualizations based on the chance and control theory in space. We also learnt how to import and export geometry from Processing to Autodesk Maya through its own scripting editor.Theme of the workshop is utilitarity. From the view of the short time of four days, we experimented with the rules and strategy of swarm and learnt the syntax of Processing.
