"This contribution deals with applications of X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) and micro-analysis (microXRF) in the investigation of objects of cultural heritage. The first part is devoted to the principle, history, and prospects of the XRF method. The current research is focused to analyses of tiny details on a surface of an investigated object. Therefore, a new device for micro-analysis was constructed at the Czech Technical University in Prague, which is able to determine the surface elemental distribution with a lateral resolution down to 20 \u00B5m. The second part of this contribution includes examples of applications of this new apparatus in investigation of selected artifacts and advantages of microXRF are described in comparison with the classical XRF method.
