"The CyMe4-BTBP and its derivatives have been demonstrated to be prospective extractants for the liquid-liquid extraction of minor actinides over lanthanides from high-level liquid waste issuing the reprocessing of the spent nuclear fuel. This study will summarize the results of testing CyMe4-BTBP, its new derivatives and other BTBPs for the separation of Am(III) from Eu(III) from nitric acid solutions. Influence of the diluents such as n octanol and cyclohexanone and its derivatives will be discussed. In addition to the basic testing of the dependences of Am and Eu distribution ratios and their mutual separation factors on nitric acid concentrations, the results of thermodynamic and kinetic studies will be presented. Attention will be paid to the fact that a significant kinetic effect was observed for the SF(Am/Eu) values. This effect is caused by the usually slower kinetics of Am extraction when compared with the extraction of Eu. It will be shown that, as a result of this phenomenon, strict control of the kinetics of the separation process is needed to reach maximum SF(Am/Eu)." .
