Simulation and modelling on computers influence different areas, from technical science, natural sciences, economical sciences and human sciences through education process up to daily life. Hence the research in this important scientific domain is continually actual and essential; its results help us to solve important problems, to augment our knowledge and to improve the quality of our life. The research in the area of modelling and simulation oversize the capacity of one journal issue. Our aim was to provide the readers at least a narrow survey of this scientific area and to apprise them newest and interesting research results in the selected fields of modelling and simulation. All papers are extended and revised versions of the papers presented at the 7th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation, which was held in September 6\u201310, 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic. Congress was organised by the Czech and Slovak Simulation Society together with EUROSIM in cooperation with Czech Technical University in Prague. The papers presented in this special SIMPRA issue were nominated by congress session chairmen. Final selection was done by the editors of this issue. The Simulation Modelling Practise and Theory is an International Journal of the Federation of European Simulation Societies \u2013 EUROSIM and since founding supports the EUROSIM Congresses by issuing the special issues. It positively affects the quality of articles presented on congresses. We would like to express our thanks to all authors and reviewers for their professional and respective work. We hope that inside this issue you can find relevant papers from the field of your interest." . . "10.1016/j.simpat.2012.12.003" .
