"Real image processing in optical domain always contains different kind of optical aberrations and distortion. Optical systems with all aberrations compensating is called diffraction limited. The aberrations negatively effects on image quality and imaging system transfer characteristics. Therefore real optical systems simulations and modelling has to focus to the aberrations removing or distortion compensating. Aberrations influences on the image quality can be expressed as wavefront error at the exit pupil and their effects on the transfer characteristics as change of the PSF (MTF) size and shape. For accurately describing the wavefront aberrations of the optical system the Seidel or Zernike polynomials is using. Seidel aberration polynomials are convenient for serving as a primary aberrations interpreter. Using the Zernike polynomials we can describe even high order wave aberrations."@en . "Praha" . .
