"Reliable prediction of NOX emissions can be a reliable source of information for boiler design and fuel selection. Kinetic models, which are recently prefered for FBC boilers, are overly complex and require large computation capacity. Despite of all efforts to increase reliability of the kinetic models a large uncertainity exists due to complex phenomena in the fluidized bed. Much more simple empirical models that are able to reach similar reliability are used for PCC boilers. Application on FBC boilers however, was not found in literature. Modification of empirical models for FBC can be problematic since the NOX formation mechanisms are different. Existing empirical models are based on parameters that were chosen as relevant based on experience. Choice of these parameters is different for each author. Absence of a theoretical explanation is causing empirical models to be reliable only under limited conditions, in some cases only for one boiler. Dimensional analysis can provide a theoretical basis for empirical parameter choice in general as well as for FBC boilers and increase the reliability and applicability range."@en .
