"Aortic branching (AB) represents significant shape inhomogeneity, what has relevance to vascular diseases. Mechanical testing of real AB is difficult for many reasons (degeneration, moistness, ethic problems). Moreover, AB geometry is patient-specific and it is not clear which parameter affects which property. Proposed artificial AB is a simplified copy of real AB (symmetry, constant wall thickness). It is used for comparative measurements. AB is casted from material called Sylgard 184. It is possible, to mark outer surface for digital image correlation. The material is transparent. Moulds for casting are made by Rapid prototyping technology. The outer parts are made of ABS durable thermoplastic whereas the inner part is made of soluble material. Surfaces of moulds are then treated (plastic primer, filler, final varnish, sandpapered). The system of moulds is modular. Extending branches may be attached for casting longer AB (for demands on stiffer clamping or flow measuring)."@en . . .
