"Increasing of quality requirements together with reducing of costs demands represent nowadays access in manufacturing. While in soft operations high dimension precision and high surface quality are usually also reached in machining with definite geometry of cutting tools, for finishing of hardened surfaces usually grinding is used. Traditional grinding operations can be in specific cases substitute by turning or milling. These methods are possible to apply with progressive cutting materials with surface finish equal to grinding quality. Surface is not only geometric entity, but also the surface layer. This paper presents surface integrity results in machining steel 14 109.4 with hardness 60 - 62 HRC in turning and milling.
