The size of particles used in nanocomposites is about few nanometers. When dry nanoparticles are first added into a liquid, clusters as large as hundreds of microns can be formed. It is caused by mechanical forces and physical-chemical forces. Nanocomposite materials require break down of these clusters in the liquid, followed by the de-agglomeration and dispersion, ideally down to the primary nanoparticle size.
